The corporate world is a new syndrome that we have coined for ourselves, which brings with it a whole new lifestyle and existence. As a Skin & Hair clinic, we understand the stress of work load in the corporate, as a lot of our patients come from the corporate world. The most common concerns we observe are- Hair fall, Dark Circles, Premature Aging, Pigmentation and Acne. Most of these concerns are stress related. Long hours in front of the laptop, irregular meals, lack of proper sleep, closed & air conditioned environment and much more such factors could lead to these concerns.
Using good home care regimen, eating healthy diets, exercising, managing stress ( the main cause of hormonal breakouts) and getting regular treatments for maintenance from the right person is required to manage the skin, hair & body.
But there are some concerns that one may face in the corporate world that may hinder their career growth. Let us list those factors, their causes and how to resolve such issues.
It’s not just long working hours, uncertain schedule and lack of rest that causes fatigue. Lack of water is the number one cause of daytime fatigue. If at all you feel thirsty, it means that you are already dehydrated! Air conditioned environment worsens the condition. Skin is intricately tied to the overall health of your body. When your body is properly hydrated, you’ll look better and feel better. Water gives you a radiant complexion and in addition, bloating and puffiness often disappears. So drink enough water and keep going.
Almost 80% of skin ageing is caused due to harmful UV rays. Doesn’t matter if you are indoors most of the time, the UV rays are still damaging your skin. Sunscreen is one of the keys to radiant, youthful-looking skin. Freckles, age spots, spider veins on the face, rough and leathery skin, wrinkles, loose & dull skin, a blotchy complexion and skin cancer can all be traced to sun exposure. You should apply your sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before you are going to be exposed to the sun and reapply it every 2 to 3 hours.
Also, antioxidants fight free radical damage, boost immunity, delay skin ageing and protect against sun damage. It almost works as an internal sun screen for your body. It can prolong and even make some skin reversals of damage that will take years off without much cost & can give you that ever glowing skin you always crave for.
Uh Oh… Body Odour!
Excessive sweating and body odour is a common problem faced in crowded spaces. Ever been embarrassed due to sweat marks on your shirts or blouses or salwars? Does fear of a handshake, make you avoid social situations? No matter how much antiperspirant or deodorant one uses, you can’t hold back the odour unless you have Botox done for your under arms and palms
We have seen office team leaders in the middle management undergo these procedures as in their appraisals they have been told about the BO problem that their teammates have complained about. And most people think it is a hygiene problem, this is FALSE. It is sweat related.
The procedure is quick and comfortable. The area to be treated is shaved and the Botox is placed in the underarm area evenly. In 3 – 5 days you will notice that the sweating has decreased and that you have no body odour worries anymore. The results typically last 7 – 9 months.
The corporate environment can mean long hours, high demand, and constant deadlines. All of this pressure can quickly result in stress that seems to never end. Rising levels of stress among employees, along with the predominance of a sedentary lifestyle is touted as the leading cause of an array of illnesses including hypertension, eating disorders, high blood pressure and a high incidence of cardiovascular ailments. It can be a major cause of hair fall, dark circles and acne too.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. Instead of finding yourself down and dreading going to work every day, there are ways to beat the stress and make work pleasurable again.
Apart from eating healthy, try exercise, yoga and meditation. Relax and give yourself enough time to rejuvenate.
So in a nutshell, follow these tips and change your corporate lifestyle-
- Dark Circles is genetic, but long hours in front of the laptop can add to puffiness and dark circles. Take frequent breaks. Look away from the screen to a distant sight.
- Get up and take a short walk.
- Stretch your neck by looking up at the ceiling and holding for at least 20 seconds. Look left and right to stretch your neck.
- Adjust your working space so you’re not always looking down at the screen.
- Place a mirror by your computer screen so you can see if you’re frowning or squinting. (Ignore comments about your vanity.)
- Purchase an antiglare screen that fits over the computer monitor to cut down on radiation exposure and the glare of blue light.
- Maintain a good distance from the monitor and clean it regularly (to remove dust).
- Consider applying moisturiser or a hydrating mist periodically through a long day. At the very least, wear a long-lasting moisturiser
A little maintenance goes a long way. See a dermatologist if you are facing any skin or hair related issues that are persistent. Most issues are easier to treat in the beginning than at a later stage.
