Skin Care for Your Blossoming Young Adults | Kosmoderma
Taking care of your teenager's skin in the early years
Skincare routine should not begin when there is a problem. It is always the best to begin early because your child's skin care routine is not very different from your own, at least as far as the basics are concerned. You shouldn't wait until your child gets a breakout or a sunburn to encourage them to start taking care of their skin. After all, we don't wait until they have a cavity to suggest they brush their teeth. Routine skin care can be undertaken as soon as they are able to take the responsibility and maintain the habit of doing it. For most children, as soon as it is a habit, it's like brushing their teeth. They just follow the routine.
Get them into the following habits:
- Use gentle, fragrance-free, pH balanced cleansers.
- To prevent dry skin, apply liberal amounts of moisturizer after bathing.
- Initiate early sun-protection behaviors, including:
- The regular use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen that offers a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 30 or higher.
- If a child is prone to skin irritation or allergic reactions, select a physical or chemical-free sunscreen with the ingredients zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
- Reapply sunscreen approximately every two hours, even on cloudy days, and after swimming or sweating.
- Wear protective clothing, such as a long-sleeved shirt, pants, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, where possible.
- Seek shade when appropriate, and remember that the sun’s rays are strongest between 10 a.m. And 2 p.m.
- Habits like, getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, keeping stress to a minimum and making healthy food choices are also very crucial to minimize breakouts & other skin concerns as they enter puberty.
When to see a doctor?
If they start experiencing skin concerns like acne, blackheads, whiteheads, blemishes, pigmentation, dry skin, scars etc., it’s time to visit a dermatologist. This usually happens when they step into adolescence. Keep in mind that the development of such skin conditions is really not all about a face’s cleanliness. This is why it is important for them to be evaluated by a doctor at the first sign of skin concern, so that a plan can be implemented to prevent such conditions.
A few salons and spas offer teen facials for young skin. But the question is, are they professional enough to handle the skin of these blossoming young adults?
If your teenager is experiencing such conditions, help him / her address the underlying source of the problem with the help of skin counselors and doctors and get them started on well-designed Teen treatments.
Skin Clinics give a lot of emphasis on carefully designing and customising treatments for young ones, according to the skin needs by putting together a range of products that penetrate deep without harming young skin. And even before that, counseling the teenager on how to take care of their skin in simple steps is very important to get results.
One of the other benefits of getting professional treatments from medical centers is that skilled aestheticians perform procedures under professional supervision. A simple thing like extraction can damage the skin if not performed properly. Safety & hygiene are also given utmost importance.
Homecare Masks:
Oily skin
Rice Bran Powder Mask
It gently exfoliates and is an old Japanese secret for smooth and flawless skin. Rice bran powder is said to prevent wrinkles, quickly heal blemishes, and absorb the dirt and oil from the pores. Mix it with raw milk and oatmeal, and you’ve got a mask. Apply & leave on for 10-12 minutes & rinse off.
Combination skin
Papaya Mask
Papaya is an all-natural remedy that removes dead skin cells and excess lipids from the surface of the skin, leaving it soft and smooth.
Rinse your face with water and pat dry. Mash up the flesh of the papaya well, until it is of a consistency that can be easily applied to your skin. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes, and then rinse off completely with warm water. If your skin has a tendency to get dry after you cleanse it, use a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type afterwards.
Papaya also contains an enzyme called papain, which reduces inflammation and helps prevent acne.
Dry to Normal skin
Avocado and Honey Mask
Just mix 2 tbsp. of honey with half a mashed avocado, leave the mixture on for 15 minutes, and rinse off.
Avocado and honey combine their qualities of being a good source of sterolin and humectants to treat the misery brought on by having a dry skin in cold weather.
The avocado contains vitamin C, vitamin A, it also contains all the B vitamins and provides a significant amount of vitamin E.
So remember, some timely preventive maintenance at the right age could help your children minimize the effects of puberty and boost their self-confidence, while reducing the risk of physical* as well as mental scarring.
