- High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)
As against High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) , Ultherapy is HIFU performed through the specific patented machinery called Ulthera.
Ultherapy as a procedure is ideally suited for those who want a more subtle lift in softer and smaller areas without any downtime. Those who have already undergone surgical facelifts and now want to opt for maintenance to keep the procedural effects intact can also consider Ultherapy.
- The Brow and forehead region
- The Neck region
- The double chins or chin lifts
- The Chest region
Anyone who feels that some part of their facial or body skin need tightening can undergo Ultherapy.
There are no exceptions that have been made yet on who can take the treatment, however, the doctor will always check your vitals to ward off chances of any risk.
The procedure has been cleared by the FDA. In addition, ultrasound energy has a proven track record, with use in the field of medicine for more than 50 years.
HIFU / Ulthera is the next generation non-invasive face lift which uses the power of Ultrasound to safely lift and tighten the skin. It helps to improve the tone and tighten the features of your face such as your eyebrows, cheeks, jawline, neck making it a viable alternative to surgery. It works on body areas like sagging tummy, and arms .
What is HIFU?
HIFU is usually referred to a medical technology that uses an acoustic lens to concentrate
multiple beams of ultrasound on the targeted areas. The beams pass through tissues and the
energy transmitted have useful thermal and mechanical effects on the deeper layers of the
skin. HIFU is typically performed with real-time imaging via ultrasound so that the doctor
is able to identify the areas that require treatment.
The Working Principle for HIFU
HIFU directly delivers heat energy to the skin and deeper subcutaneous tissue that can stimulate
and renew the skin’s collagen, improving the texture and reducing sagging of the skin. It
elevates the temperature up to 65 degree centigrade which causes collagen to contract and
get denatured resulting in shorter and thicker collagen which eventually leads to lifting
and tightening of the skin.
This technique can be applied to the face as well as the body and it works well for all skin
and body types
The following areas can be effectively treated using HIFU
- Eye Brows and Forehead
- Cheeks / Face
- Jawline
- Double Chin
- Tummy
- Upper Arms
- For sagging skin
- For tightening of face and body
- Non Surgical Face Lift
FAQs
What is High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU Therapy)?
HIFU Therapy is a safe, non-surgical ultrasound treatment that offers a non-invasive alternative to a surgical face lift. One of the US FDA approved devices for this is Ulthera
HIFU Therapy treats the deep foundational layer addressed in cosmetic surgery. It is a great alternative, especially for those not ready for surgery.
HIFU is the only technology that can address the deep tissues for tightening non surgically
How is HIFU therapy different to laser procedures?
HIFU Therapy uses sound energy (ultrasound) that allow it to bypass the surface of the skin
to treat depths that can not be matched by any other non-invasive cosmetic device.
How does HIFU therapy stimulate collagen production?
It elevates the temperature up to 65 degree centigrade so that there is collagen contraction. The heat causes collagen to contract and get denatured resulting in shorter and thicker collagen resulting in lifting and tightening of the skin.
How long will a HIFU therapy Treatment Take?
The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment
plan. A face and neck procedure typically takes 60-90 minutes.
Will I need to take time off work?
With a single HIFU therapy treatment there is no downtime. After your procedure, you can
resume your normal activities immediately. Discomfort may be observed mostly in the bony
areas.
How long does it take to see results and how long do they last?
After your HIFU Treatment, you will feel an immediate tightening in the treated area, The
results are seen in 2-3 months, as your body naturally regenerates collagen. The treatment
produces new collagen in your body and this process takes upto 3 months.
Who can have this treatment?
HIFU is suitable for all skin types, in the age group of 25 to 75 years. It is suitable for
both men and women.
Are there any risks involved?
There may be slight redness for up to an hour or so following the treatment, and very few
though but some patients may have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to touch.
What is the difference between HIFU and Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a brand of a HIFU machine that is used worldwide to counteract the effects of gravity on the skin – non-surgically. The efficacy and safety of Ultherapy has been demonstrated in several clinic studies. Ultherapy is FDA-cleared for 4 indications i.e. lifting of the brow, submental (jawline), DEEPSEE™ Visualisation and décolleté.
Another important differentiating factor is that Ultherapy is supported by over 110 studies and research papers (60 peer-renewed papers and 50 clinical studies). To date, there has been more than 800,000 treatments with Ultherapy globally.
Although the cost of treatment using Ultherapy can be two or three times more costly than a HIFU machine, you are guaranteed that the treatment is carried out using controlled parameters, delivering only the best, effective results you deserve.
