The Working Principle
Done by means of a rotating wire brush, the process creates controlled wounds on the target areas.
The wound creation facilitates formation of new cells in the area.
The time for the wounds to heal takes anywhere between a few days to over a week.
Another form of Microdermabrasion called as Microdermabrasion Microparticles involves blowing
abrasive microparticles over the affected surface to facilitate collagen boost. Usually no
wounds get created in this process.

Side Effects and Limitations
There have been no reported side effects of Microdermabrasion till date however, some people
may have minor bruising or redness which dissipates in less than one week.
Microdermabrasion is highly dependant on the experience of the dermatologist/therapist. If
not done correctly, the treatment can result in hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, thickening
of the skin and even scarring.
It is thus recommended that if the wound caused by the process becomes, red, swollen or itchy,
medical help be sought.
Microdermabrasion at Kosmoderma
The peeling crystals are applied to the skin via vacuum suction through a plastic nozzle. It
feels like a scraping or gritty sensation. The skin becomes slightly pink or red during the
treatment depending on how sensitive one is to friction. This coloration however reduces considerably
within 15-30 mins leaving a glow or flushed appearance.
The best effects from a Microdermabrasion are seen 24 – 48 hrs post treatment.
